Columbarium niches
Our columbarium, dedicated in the 2000s, offers individual above-ground niches for the placement of urns, starting at $2,000. Each niche is inscribed, recorded in our permanent interment records, and visitable daily from 8:00 am to 4:45 pm — the same continuous records we have kept since 1853.
In-ground urn burial
Families who prefer a traditional graveside setting may bury cremated remains in a designated urn space, starting at $650. Urn spaces may be marked, and cremated remains may also be interred in an existing family grave — reuniting generations in one place. Our staff will confirm what your family lot allows.
Why families choose a permanent placement
- A recorded location that children and grandchildren can always find
- An inscription — a name in a place, not only in memory
- Relief from the quiet burden of keeping an urn at home
- A destination for anniversaries, holidays, and quiet visits
Arranging a niche or urn space
Niches and urn spaces may be arranged at the time of cremation or purchased in advance through a New Jersey-regulated pre-need trust. If you are arranging a cremation with us, we will walk you through placement options in the same conversation — see our cremation services page or request the full price list.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a cremation niche cost?
Columbarium niches at Evergreen Cemetery start at $2,000. In-ground urn burial in a designated urn space starts at $650. Request our full price list for current itemized pricing.
What is a columbarium niche?
A niche is an individual above-ground compartment in a columbarium — a structure built specifically for the permanent placement of urns containing cremated remains. Each niche is recorded in the cemetery's permanent records and may be inscribed, giving family and future generations a lasting place to visit.
Can I buy a niche before it is needed?
Yes. Niches and urn spaces may be purchased pre-need, and New Jersey law requires that pre-need cemetery funds be held in trust, protecting your purchase. Many families arrange the niche at the same time they arrange a cremation, so everything is settled in one conversation.
Can visitors access the columbarium?
Yes. The columbarium is on our grounds, which are open daily from 8:00 am to 4:45 pm.
We already scattered or kept the ashes. Is a niche still possible?
In most cases, yes. Cremated remains that have been kept at home can be placed in a niche or urn space at any time — families often do this years after the cremation, when keeping the urn at home no longer feels right. Contact the office and we will walk you through it.
